Project Steps
This design was etched in stages. The technique allows the use of a particular stencil image multiple times on the same project when you don't have enough to etch all simultaneously. Additionally, it enables stencil images to be placed in closer proximity than the stencil borders would otherwise permit.
This design also used a masking technique which allows for the selective use of certain parts of a stencil in specific locations.
After preparing the glass,draw 4 lines on the inside of the bowl to divide it into 4 equal sections. Turn the glass upside down. Place the fan shell and lobster in opposite quadrants.
Turn the glass upright and lay the coral reef stencil curved around the stem on half of the glass base. Cover the unused part of the stencil securely with masking tape.
Follow the etching cream instructions to etch these onto the glass.
Turn the glass upside down again and in the remaining empty quarters, place the nautilus and the cone shells. Turn the glass upright and place the coral reef stencil over the remaining empty space on the base of the glass.Use the etching cream, as before, to etch these onto the glass.
